Wildfires Rip through Greek Villages killing Dozens

by Newsroom 4 months ago

The Eastern and Western Attiki regions of Greece have been engulfed in wildfires killing at least 49 tourists and local residents, with many more missing feared dead. The wildfires, the worst in a decade, started in 15 locations around Athens. Firefighting efforts are being hampered by the tinder-dry conditions and gale force winds fanning the out-of-control flames. Thousands have been forced to flee, many doing so by car blocking roads in the area and further restricting the ability of rescue teams. Others escaped by foot to nearby beaches instigating massive rescue operations by passing boats and coast guard. Yesterday 700 individuals were stranded on a beach outside the village of Mati until passing boats, the coastguard and helicopters could retrieve them. Mati itself was wip

Dramatic shift in new Cuban Constitution

by Newsroom 4 months ago

For ten years Raul Castro has been pushing Cuba toward greater prosperity through economic reform and his work appears to be cumulating in the re-writing of the Cuban Constitution. The principals and structures defined in the new draft are a significant break from the 1976 communist constitution, key differences include an allowance for private ownership, the removal of the objective to create a Communist state and even makes way for same-sex marriage. Lawmakers, however,  have been quick to note they are not giving up their socialist ideals and that in no way will Cuba become a Capitalist state The country has seen almost 60 years of rule by the Castro family and this new legislation seeks to make this an impossibility in the future. Any newly elected leader will be

by Newsroom 4 months ago

Europe has been hit with a near record-breaking level of heat this summer causing various problems across the Continent. Help has been sent from Norway, Denmark (who have sent 27 firefighters and equipment) and as far away as Italy. Norway also suffered last week with up to 100 fires, alongside France Greece and Spain. Last European wild bears become 'homeless' | Video reports |

by Ioan Pupila 4 months ago

Almost extinct in Western Europe, the largest population of brown bears living in the virgin forests and national parks of Carpathian mountains, faces serious challenges in the context of massive deforestation and human intervention in their natural areal. The phenomena of having 'stray bears' in the cities nearby the mountains in Eastern EU countries (e.g. Romania, Slovakia), looking for food in the bins and getting closer to human settlements, has been documented by IndieFrame smartphone reporters in the last year. Tens of videos were recorded by people, showing the unseen facet of long-term industrial activities that seek to turn natural resources into profit, in one of the poorest parts of the EU.:: see the latest bear video posted by national Romanian radio (RRA on Facebook) from

Trump and Putin meet in Helsinki

by Newsroom 4 months ago

Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump meet in Helsinki for their first official Summit amongst a background of anti-Trump and Anti-Putin demonstrations. Both leaders arrived late to the event and had a brief introductory meeting with media before entering into private discussions with only their respective interpreters present. As of yet the content of these discussions has not been hinted at. The Summit which has no official agenda seems split between contending agendas. Russia’s top topics appear to be normalising bilateral relations, Ukraine, terrorism and Korea whilst American interests lie in Trade, China and New START, the nuclear weapon treaty. It is unclear at this point whether any concrete progress will be made or whether the mismatched agenda and softer 'im
